Happy Earth Day 22 April 2022 from Urbaqua

Earth Day is here and the theme for 2022 is Invest in Our Planet. Why? Because a green future is a prosperous future.  What each of us does today, and how we do it, has a ripple effect on our ecosystems. So, what is happening around the world this week – https://www.earthday.org/

Lets look at how some of our staff are contributing  to Earth week …

Ride your bike

Bec likes to ride her bike to work. She has noticed that  the roads in Perth city are not as congested these days, as many public servants are working from home due to the Covid pandemic.  Visiting clients on a bike means fewer parking issues, no carbon emissions and overall, it contributes to a healthier lifestyle. Clients find it amusing when Bec rocks up in high heels with her helmet tucked under her arm.

Helen likes to utilise public transport. She leaves her car at home and walks to the train station.

Support companies that use sustainable agriculture

Marie likes to eat plant-based food and supports companies that use sustainable agriculture.  She finds it is one of the easiest ways to have a positive impact on the environment.

Use recyclable products

Shelley is always looking out for companies that use recyclable environmentally conscious processes in manufacturing. Recently she discovered Browne’s recyclable milk carton and we now opt for this instead of the standard ones. She also uses grey water to irrigate her lawn. We all know how passionate Shelley is about water and that it is becoming scarcer due to climate change fuelled by droughts and fire.  If you are interested in learning more about grey water systems, go to  https://www.water.wa.gov.au

Cut down on fossil fuels when out on the water

If you are wondering why there is a kayak in the boardroom, it occasionally gets taken out by Rachel, when she collects water samples. The kayak causes less disturbance to the lake. Rachel goes out in all weather, so if you are imagining a quiet afternoon doing a bit of sampling think again.  She wears full PPE gear to fend off mosquitoes, tick and the occasional tiger snake.
