WA Water Awards 2017 – Good luck to all finalists!
The 2017 AWA Western Australian (45th Anniversary) Water Awards are on tonight, with winners to be announced at a dinner at the Pan Pacific Hotel. It promises to be a big night show casing WA’s excellence in the water industry, including a presentation by The Hon David Kelly, Minister for Water, Fisheries, Forestry, Innovation and ICT, Science, and a dash of music and fun thrown in the mix! AWA will again be partnering with WaterAid by including a wine wall during the course of the evening, allowing guests to get some warm fuzzies by contributing towards WaterAid‘s fundraising efforts while going home with a bottle of plonk or three.
Urbaqua would like to wish a huge GOOD LUCK to all awards finalists, with a special mention going to finalists of the Water Sensitive Urban Design (Grahame Heal) and Innovating for Sustainability award categories!
Urbaqua has a particular connection to the Grahame Heal award as it was originally established by New WAter Ways (managed by Urbaqua‘s Shelley Shepherd) in 2011, with the purpose of recognising excellence in total water cycle management that has resulted in better on-ground water, wastewater or drainage outcomes. The award honours the memory of Grahame Heal, the City of Mandurah’s “Green Engineer”, a true champion and one of the first practitioners to deliver water sensitive urban design in WA. Grahame was well known for his friendly nature in working with land developers to achieve the best outcomes for all parties, as well as his integrity, humour and caring leadership. This is something we should all be continuing to strive towards as water practitioners!
