The Pilbara State of Environment Report 2013 has recently been endorsed by Shire of Roebourne Council as a basis for determining environmental priorities for action and monitoring as set out in the Shire’s Environmental Strategy 2013.

The Report, prepared by Essential Environmental and described in a previous post, was recently released by RDA Pilbara. It provides information designed to improve the understanding of future risks and facilitate effective management of the Pilbara’s environmental and cultural systems.

Shire of Roebourne Past President Fiona White-Hartig said that the Shire recognises the need to ensure that future growth does not compromise the region’s environmental values, and the Environmental Strategy provides a framework to achieve better environmental outcomes consistent with the priorities set out in the Pilbara State of Environment Report 2013, to ensure that people in the community live in a sustainable, thriving natural environment.

Some of the priority areas set out by the Shire’s Environmental Strategy include rubbish and illegal dumping, water use and efficiency, storm surge and flood risk minimisation, waste minimisation and recycling.
