It’s a big week for the movers and shakers of WA’s water industry this week!

The upcoming Stormwater Industry Association awards night is on tomorrow night, Tuesday 17th November (@ Doubleview Bowls Club) and will include a presentation of the winners of the 2015 Awards for Excellence, the 2015 AGM, a delicious BBQ dinner and time for some banter and boisterous social bowling!

The Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (better known as IPWEA) is hosting its annual Public Works Training Week this week (16th – 20th November) with a number of the sessions led by none other than yours truly, stormwater and groundwater management, and water sensitive urban design (WSUD) experts Shelley Shepherd and Helen Brookes!

The intention of the Public Works Training Week is for younger public works types (nominated by their more experienced senior managers) to expand their knowledge and skills-base, including the areas of stormwater and groundwater management and water sensitive systems in urban development. The Training Week program may be found on the IPWEA website.

Helen and Shelley will be presenting during the training program as follows:

Tuesday 17th November

  • Groundwater Management for Urban Development (Stream A): 1.00 pm – 2.30 pm

Wednesday 18th November

  • Introduction to Stormwater Management Practices (Stream B): 9.00 am – 10.30 am
  • Maintenance of WSUD Systems (Stream B): 12.10 pm – 1.10 pm
  • Retrofitting for WSUD (Stream B): 2.40 pm – 3.00 pm

Thursday 19th November

  • Assessing Local Water Management Strategies (Stream A): 9.00 am – 10.30 am
  • Better Urban Water Management (Stream A): 10.50 am – 12.10 pm
  • How to Design and Construct Biofilters (Stream A): 1.10 pm – 2.40 pm

Last, but most certainly not least, the WA branch of the Australian Water Association is hosting its annual WA Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony this Friday night, 20th November at the delightful Duxton Hotel in Perth’s CBD.

The Grand Ballroom will play host to an evening which celebrates AWA members and promotes the outstanding work contributed by individuals and organisations in the water sector. It will recognise innovation and excellence in the technology, business and delivery of their water industry projects. Narelda Jacobs, well known television journalist and the first indigenous newsreader in Western Australia, will be the masterful Master of Ceremonies during this evening.
